Sydney CBD

So, when doing the research to travel here I had to learn some of the lingo. Not, ‘G’day’ or ‘good on ya mate’ or any number of local ways of speech but even what they call their downtown core of their cities. So… CBD stands for Central business district.

Learning the train system take a bit. Even now after a week we still have to ask directions occasionally. But it’s much like the London ‘tube’. If you know the direction you want to go, and the stop you need, it’s all there to see.

We took the train from our stop, North Sydney, and got off at Wynyard. It’s only a short walk to Barangaroo from there. A lovely lady walked with us to get us on the right track and then we were fine. Very friendly helpful Aussies we’ve found. Albeit a few jokesters who like to mess you up before offering the right info! 🙄😅

New area of shiny tall buildings and a wide boardwalk with restaurants one side and ferries and harbour tours/ dinner cruise the other.

Very pleasant area which apparently, according to our self appointed lady guide, was warehouses etc until recently (how recent I haven’t looked up)

We were going to save the Queen Victoria Building until the next day, but found we were close. So found a little sushi restaurant for lunch and then wandered the high class mall. If you’re into designer stores and ‘high tea’ then this is the place to come.

Town Hall clock in the background.
Inside is spectacular
4 floors in all. This was the top floor.
You can see all the way through each level. It’s impressive.
Town Hall is also old and impressive. Colonial style?!

Ate dinner locally to our hotel. Steak was on the menu! On line I thought I saw lamb shanks but perhaps it was an old menu so I ended up having the steak as well. It was a good, though large portion so I took my leftover piece and Ken had that another time.

Just a note. Reading map and knowing where things are is one thing, but when you are actually on the street you realize the map is just 2-D some areas, including our home base which is quite hilly!!
