The first few days

First day we simply got settled in our hotel and bought a few groceries in the neighbourhood. Napping played a prominent part of the day.

So the first full day we decided to take the ferry from Circular Quay to Manly beach. The ferries that go from circular quay go right by the famous opera house so we had a lovely view on our way. The harbour area is huge and there are many ferries and other pleasure craft on the water.

Manly was a beautiful long beach area. Many surfers, but cold water… well, I will qualify that by saying I found it cold when I put my toes in😀!

We ate fish and chips at one of the restaurants facing the boardwalk and beach. Barramundi and chips! Love it! Great to eat outside here.

After we ate we walked on the boardwalk for a while, then decided to put our toes in the sand. I tried to write ‘Manly Beach’ in the sand and take a picture but apparently the tide was coming in so washed it away before I could snap! I had but my shoes down on the sand to do that and forgot them there as we walked along.

Suddenly I realized I wasn’t carrying my shoes and jogged (yes! Not a typo!) and walked back, hoping they too hadn’t been washed away!! Thankfully I found them, far enough back to be ok, phew! At least it was shoes…. If you haven’t heard the story of my purse getting left behind in Athens… well…. Happy ending thank goodness.
