Melbourne CBD

Free tram zone in the main central business district is free!! What a novel idea. Spent lots on the Opal card for our travelling around in Sydney so this was appealing.

Passed by carts again and met one sister who knows someone I had become acquainted with on the internet and was hoping to meet while here, but alas it wasn’t to be. Circumstances…. However this lovely lady got her on the phone and we chatted, then delivered the little gift I’d brought . Sent a pic later of the delivery. 😊

There is a ‘tourist tram’, one of the old fleet, #35 which just does a continuous circuit around outskirts the free area. Goes clockwise though so… hmm. Not perhaps the best. If you’re just wanting to get on and see where later you might want to get off and see, then this would work. We had specifics we wanted to check out this day so just found the nearest one going the direction we needed and hopped on.

Our destination was the Victoria state library. Very busy area. Lots of tourists and students as central station is opposite.

Fun watching some chess players outside.

What a building inside! About 150 years old and built on the idea of the U.S. one.

The original glass in the roof proved to be very problematic it seemed so had brass cladding put on for about 50 years. Light was likely not great during that time. Now though, it has been restored and is bright and awesome architecture.

Not just a heritage site but being used still as a library.

Many art displays and shows going on there too so much to explore.

Didn’t stay out late, ate light in our room. Very early start tomorrow for the Great Ocean road tour.
