Last day….

Monday, our plans to meet up with people we knew did not pan out. Life!

So we had a slow day…. Still too hot to contemplate much. I did a little ‘walkabout’ in Glenelg before it got too hot but nothing else.

Looking at the Ferris wheel and the town hall from the pier
Oaks hotel Glenelg is on the right. Beach front balcony was lovely bonus!

So….. our very last full day, the next day, we took the tram into Adelaide again.

We had heard about Popeye river boat tours, so took the boat along to the zoo, hearing the historical and sometimes hysterical, well not that funny stories of Adelaide.

Free water, tea, coffee and other purchased beverages along with scones and cream for those who wish.
Some very large pelicans on the river.
We’ve loved the architecture in Australia

Initially we were not going into the zoo but decided… well, why not!

We had seen Pandas decades ago in Calgary but enjoyed seeing them again. One male, one female. They both came out of their areas to the back of the enclosure to the delight of all in attendance.

The male. He was laying down chewing on some bamboo.
Can we say ‘Madagascar’? Love those cute little Meerkats. They were all chattering to one another and leaving one or two as sentinels on the watch for danger.
After all the opportunities we had, this was the best picture of a Koala. I think they do lots of sleeping!

We saw a variety of poisonous snakes – behind glass! Thankfully. I shall omit pictures as I know it’s not everyone’s cup of tea. 😄

A large group of the penguins we had gone to see jump out of the ocean at Phillip Island. These don’t have to wait until dark to appear, living in safety, if captivity though.

So many varieties large and small. We spent quite a while wandering the maze. One bird enclosure was very interesting. A very loud, black feathered lyrebird called Nova with long tail feathers like a bird of paradise was going through his repertoire of sounds. Apparently they have people want to record him for video games etc. almost sounded like R2D2 a couple of times.

He was camouflaged too well to get a good picture but I have video. Amazing.

We had a bite to eat there and then on to the botanical gardens. It was quite hot by then so we just went to what I really wanted to see.

Tropical Palm House. opened 1857
Inside.

Time to go. Walked along North Terrace toward King William street where we catch the tram. Saw some more dear friends at the carts and had a chat.

Ate some of what was in the fridge as the next day was travel day.

Though I must say… beer and eggs actually travel well. 😄
