Travel

What goes up must come down…. Whomsoever travels far, must return home.

We decided not to do all the travelling in one day. Bad enough we were not flying direct as we did going. So, a flight from Adelaide to Sydney the day before the ‘big day’.

One last walk along the shore. One last time barefoot in the sand. Then off to the airport.

Last look at the coastline by Adelaide.

Only 2 hours and we were back to Sydney. This time with window seats on the right side (correct side… but actually left side of the plane) for a view of the harbour. Managed a shot of the bridge and opera house as well as some of the CBD

Sydney from the air.
Even closer look on the way by.

Stayed yet again in a Meriton suites hotel. (Signed up for their loyalty program and save a few $$ so made sense to use again if we could.)

As I said in the last post, we had a few things leftover so brought bread, 3 eggs, butter and 2 Carlton draught beer 😀 along with some nuts and other snacks. Eggs were intact when I unpacked them. 👍

By the time we arrived at the hotel we were needing some dinner. I’d seen there was a restaurant nearby that might suit us so off we went. La Bufala, Italian place so pizza, gnocchi and other pasta. But also a steak on the menu. I had hopes for the chicken Parmesan but I’d pass on that if I had another try there.

A nights rest and late check out of the hotel fortified us for the long day ahead.

Ken, loving planes, wanted to fly on the A380 ‘double decker’ plane. Hence our flight from Sydney international to LAX.

Travelling premium economy we were situated on the upper deck. No difference in the seat we had on our way here.

Started out nicely.

A little shorter flight to LAX than Vancouver. But then another 2 to get home.

I had arranged to dump the ‘special’ diabetic meal as it was useless. Not at all close to what I needed. However, the regular meals were not great either. The steak meal was ok, the second hot meal was not really even edible. Very disappointing.

My inability to eat the food was not helped by the turbulence we experienced the second half of the flight (so… about 7 hours worth!) I was a little green to begin with. A frittata with near raw onions in it and sausage which looked like they had been microwaved… not appetizing at all.

Don’t ask me to fly on that plane again! Actually I think I’ll be happy at home for some time to come. Feet on the ground.

7 hours in LAX then about 3 hours to Vancouver. Flight attendant Kate made the tiring last leg of the day a bit more enjoyable by her humour and bright personality. As we chatted, she found out about our trip and was keen to give us as much special service as she could. Even gave me a Westjet sticker for my journal…. Thanks Kate!

Yes journaling as well as blogging. Don’t want to forget our adventure details.

One more airport hotel stay and then finally off home.
Last flight! Short and sweet….

Home at last. Our own bed after 4 weeks.

One more post I’m planning yet to write. A few interesting tidbits, impressions and thoughts.

After laundry and grocery shopping ….. and more sleep! 💤
